With $85 billion in spending cuts set to hit unless a deal can be reached, the White House has released 51 individual reports on how those cuts will impact every state in the nation, and the District of Columbia.
In Speaker John Boehner’s home state of Ohio, those cuts will mean 2,500 children lose Head Start, more than 5,000 fewer children get vaccines, and programs that feed senior citizens will have $800,000 less to pay for those meals.
If you live in Virginia, California, Texas, New York, or Florida, brace yourselves. Cuts in will hit those states harder than many. In Virginia, 90,000 civilian Department of Defense employees face furlough. In Florida, another 31,000 civilian DoD employees could be furloughed. Texas will see a $67.8 million cut to education, and New York faces a $42.7 million budget cut. In California, those education cuts total $87.6 million and 15,810 fewer children will receive vaccines.
