MS NOW host Nicolle Wallace says the American people have “issued a stinging rebuke” of the Trump administration, citing a new poll from The New York Times and Siena University.
“Here we are, one year into Donald Trump’s second term as president of the United States, and the people of the United States of America do not like what they see,” Wallace said on Thursday’s “Deadline: White House.”
The survey shows the president is underwater on almost every major issue: 58% of Americans disapprove of his handling of the economy, and 64% aren’t satisfied with how the administration has addressed the cost-of-living crisis. When it comes to immigration, one of Trump’s key campaign issues, about 57% of Americans disapprove.
“And all that leads to this,” Wallace said, highlighting that just 32% of Americans believe Trump has made the country better since he returned to the White House.
The MS NOW host cited another new poll, from The Economist/YouGov, which found that 71% of Americans believe the United States is “out of control” under Trump. Wallace pointed out that such a high percentage means that even some of the president’s own supporters are turning on him.
“That includes, you know, numerically speaking, some people who voted for Donald Trump,” she said.
According to Wallace, the president’s sinking poll numbers are a result of the president isolating himself from the reality that many Americans face.
“What’s tricky about it is the bubble that’s been erected around him,” she said, arguing that it has led to Trump “doubling and tripling down on the things that are wildly unpopular, making him more politically impotent.”
She said Trump isn’t focusing on the real issues that Americans care about — and instead has become a “caricature” and inspired a feeling among Americans that none of his administration’s goals or policies are “about the people he represents.”
