Multiple gunshots were fired outside Vice President Joe Biden‘s house in Delaware on Saturday night, according to federal law enforcement officials.
The vice president and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, were not at home when a car drove by the residence and several shots were fired at approximately 8:25 p.m., U.S. Secret Service spokesman Robert Hoback said in a statement. The shooting took place on a public road outside the perimeter established by Biden’s security detail. Secret Service agents heard the gunshots and observed a vehicle speeding away.
The Secret Service is working closely with the FBI and the local New Castle County Police to investigate the incident.
The local police responded at 8:28 p.m. to a report of shots fired on Barley Mill Road, according to a statement by the New Castle County Police Department. “Fortunately, there were no reports of any injuries as a result of the incident,” the statement said.
At approximately 9:00 p.m., an individual attempted to drive past a New Castle County police officer in the vicinity of the security perimeter and was arrested as a result of an interaction with the officer. A Secret Service official said the individual will be questioned regarding the shooting last night to determine if they were involved in any way.

According to a senior administration official, the Bidens were briefed on the incident Saturday night.
The vice president’s private home is located several hundred yards from the main road where the shots were fired. The residence will be searched to determine whether any bullets hit the structure.
