On August 28, 1963, over 250,000 people in Washington, D.C. listened to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. deliver his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech. They joined together in the March on Washington to fight for their jobs and freedom. On Saturday morning, host Melissa Harris-Perry will broadcast live from The National Mall in Washington, D.C. to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the March.
Plus, following the regularly scheduled of Melissa Harris-Perry at 10am ET, The Ed Show host Ed Schultz, will join host Melissa Harris-Perry as they co-anchor the continuing coverage of the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington beginning at noon ET.
Melissa will be joined by theGrio.com managing editor and MSNBC contributor Joy-Ann Reid, NAACP National Board Member Reverend William Barber, and Civil Rights activist Julian Bond to discuss how the March on Washington has influenced some recent political movements, such as the Moral Mondays protests, as well as the Dream Defenders sit-in against “Stand Your Ground” laws in Florida.
Reverend Jesse Jackson devoted himself to Civil Rights activism in the early ‘60’s, and in 1963, he participated in the March on Washington. Melissa sits down with Reverend Jackson and will discuss his personal experiences of the historic event. Also, Sylvia Lieberman, Jesse Turner, and other attendees of the March on Washington will share their personal stories and reflect on the history that happened 50 years ago.
Harris-Perry will also sit down with Bob Adelman, a photographer who attended the March on Washington in 1963 and captured the historic moments on film. She will also be joined by Congresswoman Eleanor Norton, Jelani Cobb, Barbara Arnwine, Michael Eric Dyson, Maria Teresa Kumar, Aisha Moodie Mills, Mary Kay Henry, and many others.
