Rep. Tom Cole is unleashing new attacks against President Obama with just days until massive, across-the-board spending cuts threaten to take effect.
The Oklahoma Republican was not impressed with Obama, who on Thursday called House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell in an attempt to break an impasse on the sequester cuts set to hit in just one week.
“[The president] has been engaged in a theatrical, political-style campaign,” Cole said Friday on Jansing & Co. “Sounds to me like he’s much more interested in scoring political points than actually solving the problem.”
The Oklahoma congressman denounced jabs from Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz who told msnbc’s Chris Jansing Republicans are using the sequester as leverage for more spending cuts.
“We’re finally trying to get serious about dealing with trillion dollar budget deficits,” said Cole. “We’ve acted twice in May and December to try to redistribute the cuts away from a lot of the affected areas including the military and first responders.”
