A federal indictment against New York City Mayor Eric Adams was unsealed on Thursday.
The Democrat faces five counts: conspiracy to commit wire fraud, federal program bribery, and to receive campaign contributions by foreign nationals; wire fraud; solicitation of a contribution by a foreign national; solicitation of a contribution by a foreign national; and bribery.
Adams, who assumed office in 2022, has denied any wrongdoing. He said in a statement Wednesday ahead of the expected charges: “I always knew that If I stood my ground for New Yorkers that I would be a target — and a target I became. If I am charged, I am innocent and I will fight this with every ounce of my strength and spirit.”
