Vice President Kamala Harris kept it short and sweet in her first remarks since receiving President Joe Biden’s endorsement to become the Democrats’ presidential nominee Sunday.
Speaking at a White House event for college athletic champions from the past year, Harris reiterated points she made in her press statement after Biden dropped out of the race, saying the president’s “legacy of accomplishment over the past three years is unmatched in modern history.”
“We are deeply, deeply grateful for his service to our nation,” Harris said, going on to tout his “honesty, his integrity, his commitment to his faith and his family, his big heart and his love — deep love — of our country.”
Addressing the athletes in attendance, Harris recognized the group for including seven undefeated teams, 11 repeat champions, 20 first-time championship winners, and six qualified Olympians who will be heading to Paris for the Olympic Games. She then ceded the stage to Jordan Dudley, a star player on the U.S. under-20 women’s soccer team. All the speakers then left the stage to the Queen song “We Are the Champions.”
Seemed like a fitting jam, given the occasion.
