It looks like Chris Christie is making a comeback.
The New Jersey governor and Republican presidential candidate is in second place in the early voting state of New Hampshire with 12% support, according to a new WBUR poll of likely GOP primary voters. That’s up from 6% last month. Christie has all but staked his campaign on a strong showing in the Granite State.
The good news for Christie comes on the heels of the influential, conservative–leaning New Hampshire Union Leader newspaper recently announcing its support for the governor, news that was seen as a lifeline for his sputtering presidential bid.
Billionaire real estate mogul Donald Trump, meanwhile, remains in first place with 27% support, an indication that his controversial call to ban Muslims from entering the United States isn’t hurting his 2016 prospects.
Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida is third with 11%, followed by Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas with 10% and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush with 8%.
Rounding out the bottom of the pack are Ohio Gov. John Kasich with 7%, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson with 6% (down from 13% last month), former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina with 3%, Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky with 2% and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee with 1%.
The survey was conducted among 402 likely GOP primary voters in New Hampshire between Dec. 6 and Dec. 8 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.
