David Axelrod, former Obama senior adviser, accused Republicans of becoming the party of “squeal and repeal.”
“If squeal and repeal is your approach to government, we have a real problem,” Axelrod said on Friday’s Morning Joe.
Last week, House Speaker Rep. John Boehner said “Most Americans think we have too many laws. And what they want us to do is repeal more of those.”
The 113th Congress is on track, by the numbers, to become the most unproductive Congress in decades. Boehner doubled down on Sunday, saying Congress “should not be judged by how many new laws we create,” but instead “out to be judged by how many laws we repeal.”
Republicans in both chambers have seized on efforts to repeal or derail legislation they oppose, particularly Obamacare–the house has voted to repeal the health care reform bill 38 times and Senate Republicans have said they’d rather shut down the government rather pass a budget that includes funding for Obamacare.
“You look at where the Republican Party is and where the Congress has the lowest rating in history, how much more evidence do you need that this is a bad idea? That the squeal and repeal approach is a bad idea?” Axelrod asked.
Congress’ annual approval rating this year and last are the lowest in history.
