ISTANBUL, Turkey — Two assailants opened fire at the U.S. Consulate in Istanbul on Monday, sparking a gunfight with police, according to local media reports.
A female suspect was detained but a male assailant fled, police sources told NBC News. Nobody was hurt in the attack, the Dogan and Cihan news agencies reported.
The U.S. Embassy in Ankara did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The reported attack came hours after the U.S. military announced that a detachment of six F-16 fighter jets have arrived at Turkey’s southern Incirlik Air Base to join the fight against ISIS militants.
Separately, an explosion at a police station in the Istanbul neighborhood of Sultanbeyli killed three people and injured at least 10, Dogan reported.
