The attack brought the death toll to at least 157 people since the Trump administration began targeting those it calls “narcoterrorists” in small vessels in early September.

President Masoud Pezeshkian’s message appeared aimed at assuaging growing Gulf Arab anger over the attacks.

Israel said eight people were killed and 28 wounded in a strike in the central town of Beit Shemesh, bringing the overall death toll in the country to 10.

“We condemn Iranian attacks on countries in the region in the strongest terms,” the leaders of Britain, France and Germany said in a joint statement.
